Signal is the notification layer, which is the part of a product most likely to become annoying and least likely to get design attention. Inbox with read, unread and archived, grouping that collapses noise without hiding anything important, granular preferences per channel and per event type, digest configuration, in-app toasts with a sensible stacking rule, and an activity feed with filters. The preference matrix is the centrepiece: it is the screen that decides whether users mute you entirely, and it is built to make partial muting easy so that total muting is rare.
